Does Your Rectum Itch?

You may have pinworms

These little worms live in your stomach and are sustained by nutrients in food which travels through your intestines.

Pinworms are small, white worms which is called -Enterobius vermicularisand when you sleep, the females go from your intestines, through your rectum, and deposit eggs around your anus. If you have an itchy butt, and you are losing sleep which is also making you irritable the infection may be heavy. Besides difficulty sleeping you may also lose your appetite.

Take a flashlight and if you are doing this alone, don't try to look directly at your rectum. Get a mirror. - or get your best friend to look directly at your anus.

Or, do the scotch tape test. Blot the area and then examine the tape for those pesty pinworm eggs.

Bathing or a bowel movement may carry the pinworms away from your anus and you won't see them but may still be infected. Therefore, as soon as your wake in the morning, perform the scotch tape test -- or the mirror and light test. Take the tape to your health care provider, but don't touch it. Use surgical gloves and seal the tape in a plastic glad bag.

It is not uncommon to scratch your ass if it itches, so be sure to check under your fingernails for eggs.

Be advised, you may not have any symptoms at all.

Also be advised this is the most common infection by worms in the U.S. In the U.S. 40,000,000 people are infected.

Children have the highest infection rate. However, an infection most often occurs in more than one family member. If your kids are infected, you are likely infected also.

No gender bias implied or intended, pinworms but are more likely to infect mothers - if your children are infected.

Care centers are suspected vectors as are other institutions. if you determine your young children have pinworms. Call the health department.

Pinworms can also survive outside the body and may live on clothing and bedding for up to 2 weeks. Make sure your children wash their hands. It is not uncommon for children to infect themselves by putting their fingers in their mouth.

Pinworm treatment can be obtained over-the-counter. It takes two doses to rid yourself (and children) of pinworms.

There are ways you can avoid pinworms. Don't put your fingers in your moth. Change your underwear daily. After all, you might get caught somewhere with dirty underwear and brown spots (referred to as tire tracks) can be embarrassing (also get rid of stained underwear) so it is a good idea to change your underwear often.

Trim your fingernails.
And stop the nail-biting.

Good luck!

On the Internet since 1982
(I have been doing it longer - and I do it better)

While I don't use a standard blog (weblog software) mostly because I've been doing this too long - having been there with Ike when the precursor to the Internet, Arpanet got started and every step of the way since, I can't get into all the many fads over the years (now it is social networking), but I have been an observer and participant in events which shape the world since my time with NSA and with Army Security and as a voice security cryptologist in the White House for the President, and the War Room at the Pentagon for the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff plus two wars. You could say this site is one of the better kept secrets [grin] on the InterNUT. You are invited back as often as you would like to see what I and others, I trust, may be saying.
