| The warehouse was full of limos and a couple of guys in civilian cloths were working on some radio equipment. There were also some Secret Service guys there. |
| When I asked Chuck what exactly it was that I was supposed to do, he said, "Son, you are going to be working for the President." |

I started working at the alternative White House, but was shuttled between the White House, Camp Crystal, also known as Mt Weather, and Camp David and within a couple of weeks I was back sitting in a classroom, this time at Naval Security in D.C. |
It took Chuck a few minutes to confirm my orders. When that was done one of the drivers was assigned to me and drove me into Arlington to a men's clothing store where I was fitted for my first civilian clothing allotment. Then I was driven to Arlington Station to the Bachelor Officer's Quarters (The BOQ) and that was where I spent my first night in my new assignment. The next day I was picked up early and taken back to the shop. After that there was orientation and I was given time to find quarters for my family in an area just outside of D.C. When I was settled in a few weeks later I sent for them in New Jersey and they took the train down to Virginia.

Most of the time I traveled by helicopter or by limousine. I never
had to drive and didn't have a car. I didn't need one then. If I needed transportation I was
provided with it. I was riding high. And, that is how I started my new career at the White House in Washington, D.C., working for President Dwight D. Eisenhower. |

A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space.
He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a
kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us,
restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task
must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace
all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
